I always find old medical books fascinating and sometime outrageous at the out of date information and terms

The book has an Art Nouveau cover but the illustrations are done in a Art Deco block style

All the illustrations on the inside of the book are from the book itself

When this book came to the studio it has quite literally fallen apart, the stitching had come away and the fabric cover was coming away. It gave me the feeling of being in a shed full of cobwebs and eaten by snails. The book has been cleaned and given lots of TLC to save it from the bin. I have a book of spiders that I have wanted to use for a while and this idea came into being,
