They made several solid body electric guitars prior to this but the solid body lacked the darker, warmer tone that was produced by unamplified hollow body guitars. In seeking a middle ground between the solid body electrics and hollow body guitars, the ES 355 wa developed. This semi hollow body guitar met these requirements and
